The number of guided learning hours for all Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subjects is 380. The figure needs to be compared to that for A level, which QCA has set at 360 guided learning hours.
The number of guided learning hours is, of course, the guideline for the whole two years of the course (both for A level and for Cambridge Pre-U). Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subject courses have been designed to fit into the same proportion of the weekly timetable as an A level course. However, the linear nature of the Cambridge Pre-U course will enable schools to regain the teaching time that is currently lost by the requirement to take AS Level examinations at the end of Year 12. For most schools this will be several weeks, totalling about 40 guided learning hours.
